BALTIMORE (AP) — Wilson Ramos, Ian Desmond and Jayson Werth homered in Washington’s 6-2 victory over Baltimore, propelling the Nationals into first place in the National League East. Doug Fister improved to 8-2 by holding the Orioles to two runs in his seven innings.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have fallen out of first place. They are now a game back of Washington after falling 4-1 to the New York Mets, who are on their first four-game winning streak of the season. The Braves have lost four straight after a nine-game winning streak.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Alfredo Simon (SY’-muhn) is the NL’s first 12-game winner after Billy Hamilton hit a tiebreaking triple in the Cincinnati Reds’ 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The Reds won their fifth in a row — matching their season high — and moved a season-best seven games over .500.

SAO PAULO (AP) — For the third time, it will be Argentina-Germany in a World Cup final after the Argentines advanced to Sunday’s championship with a semifinal victory over the Netherlands in a match decided by a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks. Argentina beat Germany in the 1986 World Cup final and Germany returned the favor in 1990.

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) — Bernard Langer (LAHN’-gur) is the man to beat at the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National starting today in Oklahoma. The 56-year-old Langer has three victories, three runner-up finishes and 11 top 10s in 12 Senior Tour events this year.
