RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA (FEE’-fuh) has banned Uruguay’s Luis Suarez for four months and fined him $112,000 for biting an opponent at the World Cup. Suarez also will be suspended for Uruguay’s next nine games and won’t be able to compete for the first two months of Liverpool’s upcoming season. The action comes two days after the striker chomped down on the shoulder of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini in the late stages of Uruguay’s 1-0 win.

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Tiger Woods is in danger of missing the cut after carding a 3-under 74 in the first round of the PGA’s Quicken Loans National at Congressional near Washington. Woods carded seven bogeys and four birdies for a 3-over 74 in his first competitive round since undergoing back surgery three months ago. The leader is Greg Chalmers, who shot a 5-under 66 for a one-shot lead over Ricky Barnes and Freddie Jacobson.
