BOONE, Iowa–The Boone School Board officially approved the contract for Kristopher Byam as the new Boone High School Principal Thursday evening. Byam replaces Dr. Ben Johnson who recently accepted a position with the Bismarck, North Dakota School District as an Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools. Byam was selected from a field of more than a dozen candidates. Previously, Superintendent Dr. Brad Manard said he was very pleased with the quality of the candidates, especially with the short time frame the district had to fill the position.
Byam comes to Boone from Des Moines East where he has been part of the administrative team. The past two years he has handled the School Improvement responsibilities. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa and received his Masters from Drake University.
The contract, approved by a unanimous vote of the School Board calls for a salary of $105,000 with administrative benefits. Byam will be spending time becoming familiar with the district over the next couple of weeks and officially begins his duties on July 1. Manard did tell the Board during their special meeting that the transition should be very smooth because Johnson has taken care of much of the work needed to prepare for the new school year.
