Boone FFA Chapter Performs Well During State Leadership Conference

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone FFA Chapter recently competed in the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference and according to Jim Fitzgerald, Agriculture Instructor and FFA Advisor, had one of the best convention’s in the chapter history.

Mackenzie Lewis was elected as a State FFA Officer (Vice President) and will service and lead the over 14,000 members of the Iowa FFA as she travels the state over the next year.  Fitzgerald noted that Mackenzie is one of 5 Boone students that have been elected to serve as an FFA State Officer.

Paige Myers won the State Public Speaking contest and will now compete to represent Iowa at the National Convention in October.  Paige is the first Boone FFA Chapter member to obtain a 1st in State FFA Leadership competition.

Fitzgerald also noted that several others performed well during the events held at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.  Erica Mehlhaus finished 5th in the Greenhand Quiz.  Mary Heiller finished 4th in the State Extemporaneous Speaking.  Mackenzie Lewis, Connor Walters, Kala Wisecup finished 4th in the State Chapter Program.  Talynn Griggs received a Silver rating in State Job Interview.  The Chapter’s Ag Issues Team also received a Silver Rating.
