BOONE, Iowa—Boone High School Science Teacher Shelly Vanyo was recently recognized and presented the 2014 Iowa Academy of Science Excellence in Science Teaching Award for General/Multiple Science Teaching. The award was presented by Tom Ervin, Iowa Academy of Science Excellency in Science Teaching Award Awards Chair. Vanyo has been requested to present at the Iowa Academy of Science Fall Conference showcasing her classroom and teaching.
Vanyo has had a number of students present STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related work at various venues in the past couple of years. Vanyo was also recently named as a recipient of the ‘DORS Award. The ‘DORS Award is given to a staff member for ongoing, outstanding service to staff, students and the community. Vanyo was the first staff member nominated by a parent through the school district website.
