BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Parks Department has announced that they are closing McHose Park to vehicular traffic Thursday afternoon. The length of the closure is not known, but will apparently depend on weather conditions. A statement from the Parks Department says that due to the current conditions of McHose Park’s gravel roads and grounds, the main road will be closed to unauthorized vehicles until conditions improve. Walkers are still welcome.
Public Works and Parks Director John Rouse had indicated earlier that they were closely monitoring the situation. He has said that similar to alleys, McHose Park usually gets shut down for a period during the spring thaw in an effort to preserve the gravel roads.
In the past couple of years, the Boone Park Commission has had quite a bit of work done on the gravel roads in McHose Park in an effort to make the park more accessible. The closure is expected to help preserve that work.
