City Bans Trucks From Alleys

Posted on 11 March 2014 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Public Works today issued their spring time ban on garbage trucks in alley ways in the community.  But this year, with the depth of the frost and the fast melting that’s occurred, the ban also includes trucks 8000 lb or larger and also includes gravel roads in the community.  Public Works Director John Rouse had indicated earlier that he expects a longer time period because it will take quite a while for things to dry up.  The declaration also includes the stipulation that if any vehicle, 8,000 lbs or larger needs to access alleys or gravel roads, they need to call Public Works at 432-4211 Extension 142 to get permission.

Following thawing conditions in late February, that included several inches of very wet snow, Rouse pulled snow removal equipment from alleys because of the damage that was being caused.  Following that, colder temperatures returned with several additional inches of snow and that allowed alleys to refreeze and Public Works was able to do snow removal.
