EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Adreian Payne scored 12 points in his return from a foot injury and ninth-ranked Michigan State kept pace atop the Big Ten with an 82-67 victory over Penn State. Payne hadn’t played since Jan. 7 because of a sprained foot. He played 18 minutes, going 5 of 9 from the field.
NEW YORK (AP) — Alan Anderson scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half, helping the Brooklyn Nets pull away from the short-handed San Antonio Spurs, 103-89. The Spurs were playing without their four top scorers — Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili (MAN’-oo jih-NOH’-blee) and Kawhi (kuh-WY’) Leonard — for various reasons.
NEW YORK (AP) — Portland’s Damian Lillard will become the first player to compete in three events during All-Star Saturday night in New Orleans, including a slam dunk contest that features three All-Stars for the first time in 26 years. Indiana’s Paul George and Washington’s John Wall also will take part in the slam dunk event.
SOCHI, Russia (AP)— Actual competition began before today’s opening ceremonies at the Sochi Games, and the U.S. is playing catch-up in team figure skating. The U.S. is sitting seventh out of 10 teams with only the top five countries advancing to the free skate competition.
