Supervisors Accept Decertification

Posted on 05 February 2014 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—One of Boone County’s three bargaining units has decertified and the Boone County Supervisors took formal action to recognize the action during their meeting Wednesday.  The Local Union No. 3949 which represented the portion of the Sheriff’s Department that included deputies and dispatchers, was officially decertified in January by the Iowa Public Employment Relations Board.  Since the bargaining unit doesn’t exist after decertification, the contract that was approved previously is essentially void.  The Supervisors action included recognizing the elimination of the bargaining unit and also confirmed that the contract would be honored until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2014.  Specific plans on the new fiscal year beginning in July have not been determined.  The Supervisors did go to mediation with the other two bargaining units, the jailers and also secondary roads and landfill employees, earlier this year.
