HOUSTON (AP) — Dwight Howard scored 23 points, Terrence Jones had 21 and the Houston Rockets held on for a 97-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The loss dropped the Spurs two and a-half games back of Oklahoma City in the race for best record in the Western Conference.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks are only a half-game out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot after routing the Boston Celtics 114-88 last night, avenging an earlier 41-point loss to the Celtics. Carmelo Anthony had 24 points and nine rebounds in just 28 minutes for the Knicks.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)— It took overtime but seventh-ranked Michigan State handed 15th-ranked Iowa its first home loss of the season, 71-69. Keith Appling led the Spartans with 16 points while Matt Costello added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Seattle wide receiver Percy Harvin says he’s “absolutely playing” after suffering a concussion three and a-half weeks ago and Denver kicker Matt Prater says he’s feeling better after missing three practices last week because of an illness.
