Caucus’s Tuesday Evening

Posted on 20 January 2014 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—It’s not a Presidential election year, but the Iowa Caucuses Tuesday will help set the stage for 2016.  More importantly, there will be some stage setting for a couple of this year’s election.  Republicans still have a number of candidates in the U.S Senate race to replace Senator Tom Harkin.  Now there are a half dozen contenders seeking the Republican nomination in the 3rd Congressional District because Congressman Tom Latham says he won’t seek re-election.  The Third Congressional District doesn’t affect Boone County voters.  In the Fourth District, Congressman Steve King will be the likely Republican Candidate and the Democrats will have Jim Mowrer of Boone.

Locally there will be several people with petitions, seeking signatures.  The county offices up for election are one seat on the County Supervisors, County Attorney, County Treasurer and County Recorder.  So far, it doesn’t appear that there will be more than one candidate from each of the parties.  Two years ago, Boone County Republicans had two candidates for Sheriff, Rick Lampe of Ogden and Richard Tasler of Madrid.  Lampe won the Primary.

Boone County Republicans and Democrats have a different locations, depending on your voting precinct.  For Boone County Republicans, Caucus goers will go to either the Boone Middle School or the Ogden Middle School.  Republicans from Ogden and Rural Precincts 3, 4 and 5 will go to the Ogden Middle School while all other Republicans will go to the Boone Middle School.

Boone County Democrats have three locations.  Democrats from Boone and Rural Precinct 6 will meet at the Franklin Elementary School in Boone.  Madrid Democrats and those from Rural Precincts 1 and 2 will meet at the Madrid Library.  Ogden Democrats and those from Rural Precincts 3, 4 and 5 will meet at the Leonard Good Library in Ogden.

All caucuses begin at 7:00 and parties dictate the registration and sign-in times.  It’s suggested to be several minutes early.  Part of the Caucus activity is to set names for party committee members and delegates for County Convention currently planned for March 8th.  That will be followed by the Primary Election on June 3rd and each parties State Convention on Saturday, June 21st.
