Boone Council to Consider Vote on Countywide Economic Development

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has been receiving updates on the discussions related to establishment of a Countywide Economic Development entity.  The Council’s actual first vote could be Monday evening.  Staff and select council members have been meeting with other county and community representatives, along with representatives of Boone’s Future to see what could be worked out.  A couple of years ago, the effort did not pan out when the City of Boone decided to pursue their own Economic Development plans.  Since then, personnel has changed and that’s changed the direction of Economic Development for the entire county.

The staff recommendation the Boone City Council will consider calls for a financial participation of $35,000 by the city.  It’s expected that Boone County would also participate with $35,000 while Madrid and Ogden would contribute $2,500 each and the Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau would add $2,000.  The biggest portion would come from private business from throughout Boone County, many currently making up Boone’s Future.  The plan would call for a name change for Boone’s Future.  All the details are still be worked out but the Council is actually being asked if they wish to put the money into the effort and if they want staff and other representatives to work at getting something in place by the beginning of the new fiscal year this July.
