Stover Needs for Biomass Increase

Posted on 02 January 2014 by KWBG

OGDEN, Iowa—Opportunities to harvest corn stover exist in two regions in Iowa.  One is near Emmetsburg in northern Iowa and the other is near Nevada in central Iowa.  Kapil Arora, Iowa State University Extension Ag Engineer says a meeting will be held in Ogden next Monday, January 6th, to address the emerging opportunities and also concerns that will arise.  Arora says crop producers, land owners, crop consultants, agronomists, service providers and others with an interest in stover harvest and its removal from farm fields should attend.   He says harvesting stover will impact the economic, agronomic and water quality production factors.  Arora spoke about the meeting on a KWBG News and Public Affairs Program “Tuned In” in December.

Those that are interested in attending the meeting Monday may get more information from the Boone County Extension Office at 515-432-3882 or online at Boone County Extension website.
