Skate Pond To Open, Volunteers Needed

Posted on 10 December 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Skate Pond in Boone is slated to open Tuesday evening.  Conditions had improved enough in the past couple of days to consider the ice safe for use.  Initially, Parks and Public Works Director John Rouse had said staff was cautious about getting equipment on the ice to clean off the snow, but things apparently improved to point that the ice is considered safe for skaters.  Currently the hours are 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday and Thursday.  5:30 PM to 9:00 PM Friday.  1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday.  The hours are subject to volunteers being available to open the shelter and operate the facility.

City officials say anyone interested in volunteering time to man the warming house may contact Julie at the Boone City Hall, 432-4211 Extension 142 between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  Skate rental is available at a cost of $2.00.
