1st Use of Snow Ordinance This Season

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Public Works issued a limited implementation of the Boone Snow Ordinance for the city’s business district’s only, 11:00 PM Monday to 7:00 AM Tuesday.  It’s not uncommon for the Public Works to use the Snow Ordinance in this manner.  Because of timing and the amount of snow that fell, it was felt that a better clean of the business district’s would occur if the Snow Ordinance was implement.  That allows businesses time to clean their sidewalks, before city personnel move in and clean the streets from curb to curb and then haul out the wind rowed snow.  Heavier snow falls may require more extensive use of the snow ordinance, but that wasn’t necessary this time and in fact was not necessary very often last season.

Boone City Administrator Luke Nelson says the city continues to offer service to individuals that wish to be contacted when the ordinance is implemented.  Information can be distributed via text message and email, besides the usual outlets like KWBG.  People can signup for the notification service anytime by contacting the Boone City Clerk.  Information is available here.  Nelson also says that people that wish to be removed from the service can do so by notifying the City Clerk’s office.
