ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will have season-ending surgery. Murray suffered the injury during the Bulldogs’ 59-17 rout of Kentucky on Saturday night.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals and free-agent shortstop Jhonny Peralta (JAH’-nee peh-RAHL’-tah) have agreed to a four-year package expected to be worth more than $50 million. Peralta hit .303 with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs in 107 games during the 2013 regular season, then batted .333 with one homer, four doubles and six RBIs in 10 playoff games. He also was suspended 50 games last season as a result of Major League Baseball’s investigation in the Biogenesis case involving performance-enhancing drugs.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Third-ranked and defending NCAA men’s basketball-champion Louisville has ended its 21-game winning streak by losing in the final of the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament. Marcus Paige poured in 32 points as No. 24 North Carolina knocked off the Cardinals 93-84, one week after the Tar Heels were beaten by Belmont. Russ Smith led all scorers with 36 points for the 5-1 Cardinals.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida point guard Scottie Wilbekin has been reinstated from his five-game suspension and will be on the court when the 16th-ranked Gators visit Jacksonville tonight. Gators coach Billy Donovan suspended Wilbekin in June for undisclosed reasons, shortly after he helped lead the team to a third straight Elite Eight appearance.
