BOONE, Iowa—A team from Boone Middle School was chosen to present at the recent Association of Middle Level Education National Conference held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team’s presentation focused on Club Day and how it’s used in the Boone Middle School. Basically, Club Day focuses on the Middle School philosophy of student exposure to a variety of activities and interest which help build strong relations with students. On Club Days, teachers and students participate in like interests, activities, join in character development assemblies and provide service to the community. Several members of the team recently updated the Boone School Board about their presentation at the national conference and the interest it generated among other educators. Board member Dr. Brian Mehlhaus said parents had told him they felt Club Day took away from class time, but team members explained they actually increased instructional time by consolidating more into club day rather than spreading activities out over several days.
The Team includes Principal Carolyn Manard, Assistant Principal Scott Kelley, 5th Grade Science Teacher Susie Richmond, Art Teacher Andrea Jordan and Learning Center (TLC) teacher Shannon Zinnel.
