Posted on 19 November 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, Boone County Conservation and the Boone County Landfill and Recycling Center celebrated America Recycles Day last week, celebrating the 14th Anniversary of the Boone County Outstanding Business/Workplace Waste Reduction and Recycling Awards. ¬†Landfill Administrator Scott Smith says this year, 180-businesses were recognized for their efforts. ¬†Smith says it’s a very simple awards program, but it gives everyone a chance to say “job well done” to the many workplaces that pro-actively manage their waste.

Andy Hockenson, Executive Director for Boone County Conservation says the program reinforces the message to young people about the benefits of conserving natural resources.

Chamber Executive Director Kurt Phillips said that it’s rewarding to see the wide range of business places that support the effort, diverting waste from the landfill is just good business.

Smith will talk about the recent awards and other opportunities the public have to recycle on the KWBG “Talk to the Expert” Program, Wednesday morning at 9:05 AM.
