NEW YORK (AP) — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is the seventh American Leaguer to win back-to-back MVP awards after outdistancing Angels outfielder Mike Trout for this year’s honor. Outfielder Andrew McCutchen is the first Pittsburgh Pirate to be named National League MVP since Barry Bonds in 1992.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Major League Baseball owners have voted to move ahead with increased implementation of instant replay next season. Under the plan, if approved by the players and umpires, a manager will be given a maximum of two challenges per game and a successful challenge would not count against his limit.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — There was good news for the Denver Broncos and their fans yesterday as Peyton Manning was back on the practice field. He missed yesterday’s session with a sore right ankle. Interim coach Jack Del Rio says Manning will play for certain Sunday night when Denver meets Kansas City.

UNDATED (AP) — Guard Richie Incognito has filed a grievance against the Miami Dolphins over his suspension for misconduct related to his treatment of teammate Jonathan Martin. That’s according to a person familiar with the situation. Incognito was suspended Nov. 3 amid allegation of harassing and bullying Martin, who abruptly left the Dolphins late last month to receive help for emotional issues.

UNDATED (AP) — Michael Phelps tells The Associated Press that “nothing is set in stone” as far as a swimming comeback, even though he sent the strongest signal yet by rejoining the U.S. drug-testing program. The 18-time Olympic gold medalist tells the AP in an exclusive telephone interview that he returned to swimming mainly to get back in shape.
