MADRID, Iowa—The Madrid School Board will hold a special meeting Thursday to fill a vacancy on the board. Emily Schieltz submitted her resignation from the Board earlier in the month, because her family had moved out of the district. The Board did decide to fill the vacancy by appointment and decided to invite the candidates from the September school election to participate in the process. Julie Adair Langan and Doug Greufe finished very close together in the polling. Ryan Santi and Ken Williams were the two that were elected to the Board. Langan and Greufe were interviewed by Board members Monday. The Board does have 30-days to name someone to fill the vacancy and will easily meet that time frame with their announcement Friday. As always, district patrons do have a choice of petitioning for a special election.
