BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School Board found out earlier this month that Boone High School is one of six finalists in the running to become an Iowa STEM school.  Applications were submitted and sought ways to move away from traditional teaching and to establish partnerships with other local entities, colleges, businesses or other groups.  The top three will be awarded up to $50,000 to bolster instruction in science, technology, engineering and math.  The program is supported by Governor Terry Branstad’s STEM Advisory Council.

Besides Boone High School, other finalists include the Davenport School District, Des Moines Hoover High School, Mount Pleasant Middle School, Sioux Center High School and Waterloo East High School.  The three winners are expected to be announced about November 1.
