ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 to move into the American League Championship Series. Shane Victorino singled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning, and Xander Bogaerts (ZAN’-dur BOH’-gahrts) scored twice. Koji Uehara (KOH’-jee way-HAH’-rah) wrapped up a combined six-hitter by picking up a four-out save, one night after giving up a walkoff homer that extended the division series to a fourth game

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have forced a fifth and deciding game in their American League Division Series by rallying from deficits of 3-0 and 4-3 to beat the Oakland Athletics 8-6. Jhonny Peralta (JAH’-nee peh-RAHL’-tah) hit a three-run homer and Victor Martinez added a solo shot before Austin Jackson singled home the go-ahead run. Omar Infante (ihn-FAHN’-tay) added a two-run double to make it 8-4 in the bottom of the eighth, a half-inning after reliever Max Scherzer pitched in and out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The NFL will play three regular-season games at London’s Wembley Stadium next year, hosted by the Jaguars, Falcons and Raiders. Dates and opponents for the games will be announced when the schedule is completed next year.

WASHINGTON (AP) — New Orleans, Indianapolis and Minneapolis are the three finalists to host the Super Bowl in 2018. Those cities were selected from a pool of six at the NFL owners’ meetings today. New Orleans is seeking its 11th Super Bowl, Minnesota hosted one in 1992 and Lucas Oil Stadium is bidding to be the first cold-weather stadium to host two Super Bowls.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier says injured All-American Jadeveon (jah-DAY’-vee-uhn) Clowney is working hard so he can play against Arkansas Saturday. Spurrier says he’ll know later in the week if Clowney has recovered enough from a strained muscle near his ribcage to get back on the field. There have been questions about whether the potential No. 1 pick in next year’s NFL draft was shutting it down for the season after the defensive end said shortly before kickoff last Saturday against Kentucky that he was in too much pain to play.
