CLEVELAND (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays are going to the American League division series against Boston. The Rays won their second straight elimination playoff game by blanking Cleveland 4-0 last night as Alex Cobb and three relievers combined on a nine-hit shutout.

ST. LOUIS (AP)— The NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals start the NL division series with a game this evening against wild card winner Pittsburgh. The Cards have tabbed 19-game winner Adam Wainwright for the start while the Pirates are going with A.J. Burnett, who posted a 10-11 record this season.

ATLANTA (AP)— The NL East champion Atlanta Braves have the home field edge in Game 1 of their NL division series against the L.A. Dodgers. The Braves are going with 15-game winner Kris Medlen while the NL West champion Dodgers have tabbed their ace, 16-game winner Clayton Kershaw, for the opening game assignment.

UNDATED (AP)— The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide will be doing without one of its top defensive players for an indefinite period. Alabama coach Nick Saban has suspended star safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix indefinitely for undisclosed violating team rules.

UNDATED (AP)— A senior defense official says U.S. military academy football teams will be on the field this weekend, despite the ongoing government shutdown because the games are paid for with non-appropriated funds, and have been long planned. Army is scheduled to travel to Boston College this weekend, and Air Force will play at Navy.
