BOONE, Iowa—School elections are a week away and for those planning to vote early, they need to remember the new security measures that have been implement at the Boone County Courthouse. Those wishing to go to the Auditors Office to cast their vote early will have to use the east entrance at the courthouse. Most members of the public generally use that entrance anyway. Voting at the Auditors Office will be held between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Hours will be extended next Monday until 5:00 PM.
Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Philippe Meier says those that intend to request a ballot by mail and get that ballot returned in time, will need to make sure the written request is submitted very soon, because it takes time to mail out the ballot and for the voter to get it returned, postmarked not later than midnight September 9th. Since postmarks are not always legible, Meier suggests getting ballots returned before September 10th to avoid any doubt.
There are contested races for Boone and Madrid School Boards. Ogden has three names on the ballot, but School Board Member Chet Hollingshead had said earlier that he was withdrawing from the election. His decision was not made in time to have his name taken off the ballot. United candidates are unopposed on the ballot.
