BOONE, Iowa—The Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone has it’s own columbarium. The columbarium is an above ground facility, designed to contain cremated remains. Columbariums have become more popular in Central Iowa according to Galen Lindgren with Kallin Johnson Monument of Fort Dodge . Lindgren has been working with the Boone Park Commission on the project that was originally proposed over a year ago. The columbarium was budgeted at $30,000 which included concrete work and landscaping. It’s located near the main entrance on the east side of the cemetery and east of the Veterans Memorial. Additional space is available to located additional structures in that part of the cemetery. The Park Commission recently established the fees for the niches, the actual compartments that hold the cremated remains. Brent Shaw, parks personnel that oversees the Linwood Park Cemetery has said the niches will be sold in a similar manner to cemetery plots.
