Among other second-day winners were Roger Federer, John Isner (IHZ’-nur) and Sam Querrey (KWEER’-ee) for the men. On the women’s side of things, Americans Christina McHale, Alison Riske, Sachia Vickery and 17-year old Victoria Duval advanced. UNDATED (AP) – Here’s how things stand in the American League East after Tuesday night play. The Red Sox, who beat the Orioles 13-2, top the Rays by 2 1/2 games and the Orioles by 6 1/2. The Rays were edged by the Angels 6-5.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The Cardinals improved on their lead in the National League Central with a 6-1 win over the Reds in St. Louis. The Cards, who have won six of their last seven, have now won eight of their last 10 against the third-place Reds. The Cards top the Pirates by 1/2 games and the Reds by 4 1/2 games back. In the Western Division, the Dodgers saw their lead over Arizona slip to eight and a half games as they lost 3-2 to the Chicago Cubs as the Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 10-9 in 10 innings.

CORNELIUS, N.C. (AP) – Good news for NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. After suffering a fractured right wrist in a wreck during Saturday night’s race at Bristol, he’s been cleared by NASCAR to wear a special cast that allows him to grip the steering wheel. Truex, who currently holds the last wildcard spot with two races to go until the Chase for the Cup, is expected to finish the season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pirates and Mets worked out a trade on Tuesday that sent outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck to Pittsburgh. In return, New York is getting a minor leaguer and player to be named later.
