First Time Dog Swim A Success

BOONE, Iowa—The “Two Dog Night” at the Boone Municipal Swimming Pool Tuesday certainly turned out better than organizers had hoped.  Bill and Donna Greenley recently met with the Boone Park Commission to seek their permission to hold the event at the swimming pool.  The visit to the Commission followed a visit with Pool Manager Darcy Newcomb when they found out the pool closed for the season last Sunday.  In fact, the Greenley’s told the Park Commission that with the timing, if it wasn’t approved, they would plan for next year.  The “Two Dog Night” was a chance to take your dog swimming at the pool while you enjoyed a hot dog, chips and a beverage for just $10.  When it was all said and done, over $1,000 was raised for the Boone dog park Canine Corral.  The new dog park is located west of the swimming pool.  Fencing is already in place for the large dog area, but more dollars need to be raised for the small dog area and a few other items like a small shelter and a water source.  The proceeds from the “Two Dog Night” will be put with other donations, currently held by the Boone Parks Foundation.  The Foundation keeps the dog park donations separate and use the dollars to cover costs for the new facility.  By the way, donations to Canine Corral can be given anytime to the Boone Parks Foundation.  Information on other events will also be available at
