Mediacom officials report that a large bundle of fiber optic cable was cut at a construction site in Ames around 3pm on Wednesday afternoon. Mediacom crews were on the site as of 5:30 on Wednesday, working to repair and splice the fiber. Because the cut is significant, officials anticipate up to 8 hours for the repair to be completed. Area impacted include Boone and Story Counties, down to Sheldahl, Polk City, Granger, Dallas Center and into parts of Dallas County.
There were also customer reports of USCellular outages on Wednesday as well. A call placed to US Cellular’s customer service department indicated that the first report of the outage was at 5:25, and the typically repairs could be expected to take from 8 to 10 hours.
