Des Moines, Iowa—It comes around every year the beginning of August. Just as parents are shopping for those back to school clothes and shoes, the annual Sales Tax Holiday is there to help save a few dollars. From 12:01 AM Friday morning to midnight Saturday, no sales tax will be collected on clothing or footwear having a selling price of less than $100 per item. There is a lengthy list of items that do qualify and a list of items that don’t. For those that are interested, that list may be viewed, with details of the annual event right here. State Representative Chip Baltimore says the tax free weekend serves as a good reminder that tax dollars belong to Iowans, not the government.
