ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Tampa Bay’s Roberto Hernandez lost a complete game shutout bid with two outs in the ninth in the Rays a 5-2 win over Arizona. The unrelenting Rays got a pair of RBIs each from Yunel Escobar and Ben Zobrist on the way to their 21st win in 25 games.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Mark Ellis’ two-out single in the bottom of the ninth gave the surging Dodgers a 3-2 win over the Yankees. NL West-leading LA is 27-6 since June 21, their best stretch since going 29-5 during a part of the 1953 season.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Mark Buehrle (BUR’-lee) combined with two Toronto relievers to shutout AL West-leading Oakland 5-0, snapping the Athletics four-game winning streak. Buehrle worked seven innings giving up five hits and striking out two to even his record at 7-7.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Mike Miller’s amnesty release by the Miami Heat has opened the way for his return to the Grizzlies. The 3-point specialist has signed with Memphis where he holds eight franchise records from when he spent parts of six seasons with the team.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Percy Harvin will have hip surgery on Thursday, sidelining the wide receiver for the start of his first season with the Seattle Seahawks. Harvin made the announcement on his Twitter account on Tuesday night, hours after getting a second opinion on the injury in New York.
