BOONE, Iowa—The deadline for those candidates planning on having their names on the ballot for the upcoming school board elections is 5:00 PM Thursday afternoon. That’s when nominating papers need to be turned in to the respective Board Secretaries. Some have already turned in papers but some will wait until Thursday. Board Secretaries then need to turn the paper work over to the Boone County Auditor’s office so that ballots may be prepared.
Each school district will have at least two-board members whose terms are up. The election will select board members for 4-year terms. Each district also has different amounts of signatures on nominating petitions. For the Boone District, 50 signatures are required. Madrid and Ogden require 27 and United 18. The Southeast Webster-Grand District will have four board members whose terms expire. That is a seven member school board.
Several Board Members have said they will seek re-election, but a few have said they will not file papers. There could also be write-in candidates which has happened a few times in the past.
The School Elections will be held September 10th. There will also be questions on the ballot. Boone is seeking approval of the Public Education and Recreation Levy. DMACC will have also have a Property Tax Levy renewal on the ballot.
