ATLANTA (AP) – Andrelton Simmons tripled home Dan Uggla in the bottom of the tenth inning to give Atlanta a 9-8 win over Colorado. Reliever Scott Downs picked up the win for the NL East leaders after being acquired earlier in the day from the Angels.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Giovany Soto homered two batters after A.J. Pierzynski led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer giving Texas a dramatic 4-3 win over the Angels. Not only did the Rangers snap a four-game losing streak but they ended a 26-inning scoreless streak in the game.

CHICAGO (AP) – Jeff Bianchi and Rickie Weeks each had two-run doubles in Milwaukee’s five-run ninth inning that gave the Brewers a 5-0 win over the Cubs. Carlos Gomez broke up the scoreless tie with a RBI single to start the winning rally.

UNDATED (AP) – Three-time major league All-Star George “Boomer” Scott has died at age 69 in his hometown of Greenville, Miss. Former major league pitcher Frank Castillo apparently drowned after jumping into a lake near Phoenix. He was 44.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Eagles linebacker Jason Phillips tore his right ACL in Monday’s practice, making him the second Philadelphia player in three days to suffer a season-ending injury. Saturday Jeremy Maclin tore his right ACL as well.
