BOONE, Iowa—Boone Police have charged two juveniles in connect with a recent incident of vandalism at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Commander John Sloter reported that the investigation began on June 27th after the vandalism was reported. At the time, it was determined that an individual or group of individuals caused damage to headstones in the cemetery. Damage estimates were placed between $500.00 and $1000.00.
Sloter reported that the investigation did identify two subjects suspected of being involved. Last Saturday, July 13th, 16-year old Trenton Bass of Boone was issued a Juvenile Referral and released to the custody of his mother. On Tuesday, July 16th, 15-year old Stormy Cunningham of Boone was issued a Juvenile Referral and released to the custody of his mother. Both have been charged with Third Degree Criminal Mischief.
John Rouse, Director of Public Works and Parks for the City of Boone, had said at a recent Park Commission meeting that cemetery staff quickly cleaned up the vandalism, upright head stones and making repairs.
Sloter noted that charges are not an indication of guilt. The matter will be handled in Juvenile Court.
