The American League players taking part this year are Robinson Cano (kan-OH’) of the Yankees, Yoenis Cespedes (YOH’-eh-nis SES’-puh-dez) of the A’s, Baltimore’s Chris Davis and Detroit’s Prince Fielder. The National League roster features Pedro Alvarez of the Pirates, Michael Cuddyer (kuh-DY’-ur) of the Rockies, Washington’s Bryce Harper and David Wright of the Mets.
UNDATED (AP) – The divisional leaders in baseball at the All Star break in the American League are the Red Sox, Tigers and Athletics. In the National League the top teams are the Braves, Cardinals and Diamondbacks. The surprise team may be the Pirates as Pittsburgh, which has not seen post-season play in many years. They’re firmly in the playoff picture with a record of 56-37.
SAN DIEGO (AP) – The Giants finished the first-half of the season with a lopsided loss to the Padres in San Diego, 10-1. It’s been that kind of season for the defending World Champs as they are stuck in fourth place in the NL West with a record of 43-51.

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) – The British Open, the third major of the year in golf, is being staged this week in Gullane, Scotland, at Muirfield. Defending champion Ernie Els showed up today and gave back the silver trophy he was given last year as winner of the event. The Open begins play this Thursday.
