Fire Fighters At Boone National Building Sunday Night

Posted on 17 June 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department was called to the Boone National Building Sunday night in response to alarms about smoke in the building.  The six-story structure does contain a number of apartments which had to be evacuated after smoke was discovered on several floors.  Fire fighters were able to trace the cause of the smoke to an electrical motor for the elevator.  Officials reported that smoke was funneling down the elevator shaft and then onto the floors.  Fire fighters were able to get the power disconnected and did spend time ventilating the building.  That fire call came in about 10:15 PM Sunday, almost 12 hours after the first downtown fire call at Belluci Pizza.  Officials reported no injuries during either call.
