BOONE, Iowa—Boone Police have identified the woman who apparently died as a result of being struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train on the west side of Boone Friday evening. Commander Chuck Pepples released the name Saturday afternoon as the Boone Police Department continued their investigation. Police were initially called to the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Marion Street shortly before 11:00 PM Friday regarding a pedestrian being struck by a train. The body of 47-year old Nancy Ilse Vartanian of Boone was found east of the crossing. Pepples indicated that Vartanian’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny for an autopsy. The Police Departments investigation is continuing.
