BOONE, Iowa—The last meeting in June means that Boone City Council will conduct business on many matter related to the end of a fiscal year and the beginning of a new fiscal year July 1st. One of the many tasks will be considering the recommendations from the Council’s Human Service Committee. The Committee forward a list of recommendations to the Council for the distribution of a small portion of the city’s one cent local option sales tax. When voters approved the tax many years ago, 5% of the receipts were dedicated to Human Service agencies offering services in the city. This year, the Committee had $51,000 to distribute and received applications seeking over $81,000. Those applications are submitted to the Committee for consideration in April. Fifteen agencies have been recommended to receive grants.
