City Proposes Additional Paving to Supervisors

Posted on 22 May 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council Monday approved having City Administrator Luke Nelson present a plan to the Boone County Supervisors to include some additional paving on Quartz Avenue north of the Industrial Park Road.  Nelson explained to the Council this week that the city had budgeted $640,000 for it’s share of the paving project.  The amount taken from the engineer’s estimate.  The actual bid for the city’s share was $470,000.  Nelson told the Council that consideration on additional paving was based on a couple of factors that included extremely low interest rates received on the city’s bond sale that included the paving project and the extremely low bid from the contractor.  Nelson also noted that the bond proceeds being used for the work are being repaid through Tax Increment Finance proceeds from the Industrial Park, so it would be appropriate to consider additional infrastructure improvements.  Nelson meets with the Supervisors Wednesday to discuss the proposal.
