DAYTON, Iowa—Authorities continue to search for a missing 15-year old Dayton girl Tuesday, in Webster, Boone and Hamilton Counties. Kathlynn Shepard has been missing since Monday afternoon when she and an unidentified 12-year old girl were picked up at a school bus drop off. Both were driven to an agricultural facility southeast of Dayton where the 12-year old managed to escape and run to a farm house in extreme northern Boone County. The initial call came into the Boone County Communications Center and Webster County was notified. Monday evening, authorities recovered a Red, Toyota Tundra pickup and found the driver, forty-two year old Michael J. Klunder in a rural area northeast of Dayton. Klunder was deceased, and the cause of death remains under investigation. Authorities are concentrating their search for Kathlynn Shepard in an area about 75 to 100 miles square. Authorities says additional volunteers are not needed at this time, but may be needed in the future. For those that are interested, Webster County Emergency Management is facilitating volunteers and may be reached at 515-571-6483.
