BOONE, Iowa—It didn’t take very long, even without knowing what the legislature was going to do for funding to schools, the Boone School Board voted last week to approve the negotiated agreement with the Boone Education association. Superintendent Brad Manard says the two sides met initially and the proposal from the Association was about what the District was going to propose so they came together quickly. The overall package increase for the Association is 3.52%.
Negotiations are still continuing with the support staff’s contract. The support staff is represented by UE, Iowa United Professionals. Their initial contract proposal was made April 30th. Since then, meetings have been held in closed session. The support staff is now faced with the proposed reduction in hours to avoid forcing the district to provide health insurance coverage, even that the majority don’t seem interested in taking the school district’s health insurance coverage.
