Police Take Suspect Into Custody After Standoff

Posted on 09 May 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone Police were able to peacefully take a suspect into custody early Thursday morning following a lengthy standoff of the city’s west side.  33-year old Joshua Don Daniels had been sought after walking away from the Curt Forbes Residential Center in Ames earlier this week.  Ames Police had even called in the Boone County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Bandit to assist with the search.  Daniels made his way to Boone and Wednesday evening notified his mother that she should remove her belongings from the house because he intended to burn it down.  Law enforcement responded and surrounded the home and waited until Daniels gave up about 4:00 Thursday morning.  Police had surrounded the home and asked neighbors to stay inside.  Media and others were kept away from the scene.  Additional details of the standoff and how it was resolved are expected later Thursday.
