UNDATED (AP) – The New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies won last night’s NBA playoff games. Carmelo Anthony scored half of his 32 points while the Knicks were reeling off a 30-2 run in the second half of a 105-79 rout of Indiana, knotting that series at a game apiece. Mike Conley’s 26 points, 10 rebounds and one assist pushed the visiting Grizzlies to a 99-93 triumph at Oklahoma City.
PHOENIX (AP) – The Phoenix Suns have hired Ryan McDonough as their new general manager. He replaces Lance Blanks, who was fired on April 22 after failing to make the playoffs the past three seasons. McDonough spent 10 years in the Boston Celtics organization, the last three as assistant GM.
UNDATED (AP) – The San Jose Sharks are the first NHL to reach the conference semifinals after beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in overtime. Patrick Marleau’s power-play goal at 13:18 of the extra session gave the Sharks a four-game sweep. Also on ice, the New York Islanders beat Pittsburgh 6-4 to even that series 2-2, Ottawa has a 3-1 series lead following a 3-2 overtime win against Montreal, and Chicago blanked Minnesota 3-0 to go up 3-1 in that series.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Sabres have hired Ron Rolston as head coach on a permanent basis. Rolston led the Sabres to a 15-11-5 mark after replacing Lindy Ruff in February.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The Jacksonville Jaguars continued to revamp their secondary by signing free agent cornerback Marcus Trufant. The team released veteran cornerback Antwaun Molden to make room for the former Seattle Seahawks starter.
