City Council Votes to Extend Open Burning This Spring

Posted on 07 May 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—It will only be an additional week, but a majority of Boone City Council members felt it would be a good idea to extend the time frame for the open burning of yard waste.  The Council voted Monday night to extend open burning of yard waste to May 22nd because of the wet conditions in April and early May.  The normal time frame for open burning in the spring is from April 15th to May 15th from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM.  Free yard waste disposal at the Boone County Landfill will actually run to the end of the month, May 31st.  Boone Mayor John Slight says no matter what the Council does, there will still be disgruntled residents.  He says the topic of open burning always seems to be split.  Slight says the current ordinance has worked well and the Council always has the option to make minor adjustments, like this weeks decision that was based on the wet conditions.
