Testimony Begins in Powell Trial

BOONE, Iowa—Testimony began Wednesday in the first-degree murder trial of 29-year old Joshua Andrew Powell of Ogden.  Powell has been charged in connection with the death of his wife Jaclyn in October 2012.  Jury selection was actually completed late Tuesday.  Powell has been in custody and held in the Boone County Jail since he was charged.  He has plead not guilty.

Newly appointed Boone County Attorney Dan Kolacia and Iowa Assistant Attorney General Douglas Hammerand are handling the prosecution.  Public Defender Maria Ruhtenberg is defending Powell.  District Court Judge Steven Oeth is presiding.
