BOONE, Iowa—Many might have missed it, but Friday is Arbor Day in Iowa. There will be a recognition of Arbor Day at the Iowa Arboretum on Saturday. The Celebration of Trees will include an Arbor Day ceremonial planting by Charity Nebbe, host of Talk of Iowa on Iowa Public Radio. Mark Schneider, Executive Director for the Iowa Arboretum has announced the celebration of trees will be from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM and will include the Arbor Day planting. There are also free Red Oak and Bald Cypress trees and Black Chokeberry shrubs given away. Other activities will include a paper making demonstration, a beekeeping hive, and a special appearance by Smokey Bear. Activities are free for the whole family.
