Kate Shelley Presentation Draws Large Turnout

Posted on 23 April 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Historical Society and the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center co-hosted a program last Saturday with Misty McNally, publisher, author and illustrator.  McNally is currently working on her next project, a book entitled “Kate Shelley: Heroine of the High Bridge”.  Eighty-five visitors were on hand for the presentation by McNally that included readings, reviewing little known facts and also had visual presentations of articles, maps and rare photos.  McNally says her new book will be published later this year.  She still has a trip to Ireland planned to track the life of the Shelley family.

McNally was raised in Cedar Rapids but has family ties to the Boone area and has spent quite a bit of time here.  Misty has been to Boone for more than just researching Kate Shelley.  She is also the author and illustrator of “Santa’s Scenic Valley Ride”, a holiday adventure children’s book.  Pam Schwartz, Executive Director of the Boone County Historical Society, says McNally hopes to return later this year for another presentation, after her Kate Shelley biography has been published.
