Supervisors Continue Security Discussions

Posted on 17 April 2013 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Board of Supervisors have continued discussions about improving courthouse security and trying to find ways to fund any security improvements.  The effort is driven by a presentation a week ago by Sheriff Gregg Elsberry and Chief Deputy Rick Lampe.  Recent incidents have driven the discussion.  In Boone, an individual has been charged with assault.  In Story County, and Assistant Story County Attorney was assaulted.  Security issues are nothing new.  The 2nd Judicial District has asked previously for improved security measures, especially around courtrooms and during trials.  Boone County, like many others, could only make minimal improvements due to lack of funding.  Some of the more recent proposals discussed with the Supervisors had a fairly good sized price tag.  During their meeting, the Board did not make any decisions about steps to take to improve security at the courthouse.  The discussion is expected to continue.
