OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -The San Antonio Spurs are slumping, just as other teams are gearing up for the start of the playoffs. They were beaten by the Thunder last night, reducing the Spurs lead over the Thunder in the NBA West to just a half-game. San Antonio has lost four of its last eight games.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Josh Hamilton is returning to the Rangers. Not really, but this afternoon’s game between the Angels and Rangers in Arlington, Texas, marks his return to Arlington for the first time as a member of the Angels. He signed a five-year deal with the Angels in the off season, shocking the Rangers and their fans.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) – This Sunday’s NASCAR race is taking place in Martinsville, Va., and qualifying for the race is today. A year ago Ryan Newman took the checkered flag in the event.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Davis Cup quarterfinal play between the U.S. and Serbia begins today in Boise, Idaho. The opening singles match has John Isner (IHZ’-nur) playing top-ranked Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak YOH’-koh-vihch) with Sam Querrey (KWEER’-ee) going against Viktor Troicki in the second.

ATLANTA (AP) -Miami’s Jim Larranaga and Michigan Trey Burke were named winners yesterday of The Associated Press college basketball coach and player of the year awards. Larranaga led Miami to its first ACC regular season championship while Burke averaged 19.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists a game for the Wolverines.
