SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Danilo Gallinari scored 21 points, including nine straight in the fourth quarter, and the Denver Nuggets beat Utah 113-96 last night to end the Jazz’s five-game winning streak. Utah fell a half-game behind the idle Los Angeles Lakers for the eighth Western Conference playoff spot.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) – Danny Green scored 20 points and Gary Neal added 16 to pace the depleted San Antonio Spurs to a 98-84 victory over the Orlando Magic last night. Already without injured Manu Ginobili (MAN’-oo jih-NOH’-blee), the Spurs rested Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard, and used Tim Duncan for only 14 minutes as coach Gregg Popovich prepares his team for tonight’s game against Dallas (9 p.m. Eastern).

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Washington Nationals’ star-studded pitching staff goes for its third shutout in three games this afternoon (4:05 Eastern) when the Nats host Miami in the Nation’s Capital with Jordan Zimmermann on the mound. Last night, Gio Gonzalez homered and hurled six shutout innings in Washington’s 3-0 whitewash of the Marlins.

NEW YORK (AP) – Clay Buchholz (BUHK’-ohlts) chilled the Yankees’ bats, speedy Jackie Bradley Jr. got his first major league hit and the Boston Red Sox beat New York 7-4 last night to open a season with consecutive wins for the first time since 1999. Boston and new manager John Farrell go for the three-game sweep in the Bronx this evening (7:05 Eastern).

SAN ANTONIO (AP) – One week before the Masters tournament, the Texas Open begins today with a surprisingly strong field. Among those teeing it up today are Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar (KOO’-chur), Ian Poulter (POOL’-tur) and Ben Curtis.
