BOONE, Iowa—Railroad author, teacher and historian, Dick Steffen presented a free program Saturday at the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center. Steffen’s program was entitled “Jewell Junction, A Railroad Town Then and Now”, and included a power point presentation with many rare photos and detailed information. Steffen, a retired social studies teacher from South Hamilton, wrote his book in 2006. His appearance last Saturday was due to a Humanities Iowa grant secured by Mike Wendel, Director of the James H. Andrew Railroad Museum and History Center.
Wendel’s attention now turns to a major fund raising event for the museum and history center. The Iowa Railroad Historical Society is hosting the event next Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM. The theme is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and will feature both silent and live auction items. Admission cost is $8.00 and advance tickets are available at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad website or by telephone. Additional auction information is available on the website.
